The hammer has quarter and half-cock safety positions. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition, as Antique. The screw heads are lightly tool marked with strong slots. The lock plate is dark and has specks of light surface erosion throughout. The barrel has light nicks and scuffs throughout along with more notable stains along the left side at the rear. All other metal surfaces have gone to a dark patina. A bit of case color is still evident inside the breech lock The case color swirl pattern is evident on the top of the breech lock and grip tang. Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 5% of its metal finish. There are intermittent spots of minor erosion along with light stubborn fouling throughout. Type of Finish: Blued with Case Color Lock Plate and Breechblockīore Condition: The bore is only semi-bright but the rifling is well-defined. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good-plus condition, as antique. The butt compartment door functions correctly. The plate has mostly gone to a dark patina and there is light-to-moderate pitting from surface erosion throughout. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Light nick and dings can be seen throughout with the heaviest concentration being around the grip and on the comb. There is a sling swivel at the front of the guard and a sling swivel and stacking swivel on the bottom of the forward barrel band. Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is a one-piece smooth wood with rod bayonet stud, two barrel bands, straight grip, straight comb, and a sheet steel buttplate with swing open butt compartment. The rear sight is an 1884 Buffington sight. Sights/Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a rectangular base set on the barrel. The belly of the buttstock is marked with an “M” inspector’s mark and a firing proof script “P” in an oval cartouche. The left side of the grip features a cartouche of Master Armorer Samuel W. The top of the buttplate behind the mounting screw is marked “U S”.

Small hairline crack behind the lock plate. Stock has handling marks, dents and scratches. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its original finish with a brown patina forming in most areas. Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in most areas. Standard blade front sight with typical rear ladder. The right side of the stock is marked "Co D20R/15". "15" rack number on the comb of the stock. Inspector cartouches on the left side of the stock. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate, being dated "1863" on the back. "1869/(eagles head)/U.S." marked breech block. (B) Springfield Model 1868 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Bayonet has general wear, and some gray patina. Stock has a few handling marks and scratches. Some case coloring visible on the breech block. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its original finish with light wear and areas of brown patina forming. Both bayonet and scabbard are blued steel. Brass disc on the leather hanger is marked "NC". Includes original socket bayonet, scabbard, and leather hanger. Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in some areas. Standard blade front sight with "R" marked 1873 Pattern rear sight. No visible cartouche on the left side of the stock or circled "P" proof on the wrist. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Lot consists of: (A) Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle with bayonet.
